How to Make It Through the Airport Faster

Posted on: November 27th, 2018 by Brian McLaughlin No Comments

We’ve all been there — we leave the house a little later than planned and get nervous we’re going to miss our flight because of how long it takes to get through the airport. It’s not the best feeling.

If you want to avoid that nerve-wracking feeling, take a few measures to help get yourself through the airport faster.

Sign Up for Pre-Check

One of the most time-consuming parts of getting through the airport is going through security. Instead of waiting on the long lines, sign up for the TSA Pre-Check Program. Once you’re a vetted member of the program, you can skip the security lines and won’t have to take off your shoes or take your laptop out of its bag.

Check In Online

Rather than head to the check-in gate at the airport to get your ticket, download your airline’s app and check in online. This way, you’ll have a mobile boarding pass and get to head straight to security.

Pack Light

We are all guilty of over-packing at times, but if you’re only going on a weekend trip, just pack a carry-on. You can save even more time at check-in if you don’t have to worry about checking a bag.

Wear Easy-to-Remove Clothing

If you aren’t a pre-check member, try not to wear clothing that takes a while to remove — such as lace-up boots. Not only will you spend a while getting the boots off before you go through security, but you’ll have to waste even more time lacing them back up afterward.

Keep Your Travel Documents Close

Whether they’re in your purse or a small carry-on, keep your ticket/boarding pass, ID/passport, and any other necessary travel documents easily on-hand, so you don’t have to stop and either dig in your bag to find them or worry you might have dropped them.

Getting into the Holiday Spirit in Pacific Grove

Posted on: November 12th, 2018 by Brian McLaughlin No Comments

The holiday season is upon us, and Pacific Grove is ready to deck the halls and start celebrating. If you’re in the area and looking to get into the holiday spirit, make sure you check out these events!

Pacific Grove Christmas Tree Lighting

There’s nothing like starting off the holiday season with a traditional tree lighting. Head over to Jewell Park on November 26th at 5:30 p.m. to watch local school choruses and bands perform as well as participate in caroling. There might even be a visit from Santa!

Holiday Parade of Lights

One of the most fun annual traditions in Pacific Grove has to be our Parade of Lights. Tons of floats, marching bands, dance troupes, equestrian performances make their way down “Main Street USA” on November 29th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Stick around after the parade for caroling and a bit of shopping — many stores stay open late this day!

Stillwell’s Fun in the Park

This year’s Fun in the Park is celebrating 25 years of holiday cheer! They’ll be plenty of characters present at the party at Caledonia Park — Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and the Snow Queen to name a few — and there’s plenty of fun and entertainment all day long, such as hayrides and petting zoos. Make your way over on December 1st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jingle Bell 5k

What better way to celebrate the season of giving than by participating in a charity event? The Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce teamed up with the Arthritis Foundation to host a Jingle Bell 5k. The walk/run will be held at Lovers Point Park on December 8th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the proceeds will support the foundation.

We hope you get well into the holiday spirit here in Pacific Grove! Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about the area and our quaint inn!

Tips for Traveling During the Holidays

Posted on: November 6th, 2018 by Brian McLaughlin No Comments

Traveling, in general, isn’t always the easiest task in the world — especially when you factor in flying and airport chaos. When you’re traveling during the holidays, things are a whole different ballgame. If you want to make getting from Point A to Point B as easy as possible this holiday season, here are a few tips.

Avoid Peak Days

If you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a plane ticket and want to avoid long TSA lines and wildly crowded (potentially overbooked) flights, don’t travel on peak days. For Thanksgiving, this means Wednesday. Try to get another day off and fly on Tuesday, or fly over during the weekend and make a week out of it.

For Christmas and New Year’s, aim to fly a few days before the holiday as well. A lot of people try to fly in a day or two before the holiday, so beat the traffic and fly at least three days prior to the big day.

Opt for a Smaller Airport

The holiday season amps up airport traffic, delays, and chaos to a level 11, so it can pay off big time to book a flight at a smaller, less popular airport. Since they tend to have fewer flights, you can usually avoid heavy traffic and end up saving on rental cars if you need one.

Plan Your Departure Carefully

Like we’ve been saying, holidays mean a lot more traffic, both on the road and in the airports. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport — it’s better to wait in a terminal than almost miss your flight because of road congestion. You should also account for longer lines at security. During this peak travel time, it’s typically best to arrive at the airport two hours before your flight.
